Leigh cockles, Colchester native oysters, whelks: genuinely distinctive, and a strong one to gift.
Smokehouse Box
Smoked mackerel and haddock. A gentler rhythm than daily-catch urgency, and it keeps longer too.
Date Night
A smaller, higher-quality cut plus a sauce or accompaniment. An occasion box, not a weekly shop.
How a subscription works
You set it up once and we do the rest. Nothing is locked in: skip a week, change your box, move your day or stop altogether whenever you like.
Pick your size
Small, Medium or Large. Size is the only thing that sets the price, so you always know what the bill is.
Pick your box
Five to choose from, whether you want the flagship surprise box, one boat’s catch, or the smoked selection. Fancy a different one next time? Swap it, same price.
Choose how often
Weekly, fortnightly or monthly, at the same price per box. Change your mind later and it takes a couple of clicks.
Choose your day
Tuesday for fish for the week, Friday for the weekend. It is the same slot every time, so you know when to be in.
What you pay
Most fish boxes price every option differently and make you work out which is the better buy. We price by size and leave the rest up to you.
The box you choose never changes the price
Every box costs the same for a given size, so you can have the surprise box one week and the smoked selection the next without watching the bill.
Nor does how often you get it
Weekly, fortnightly and monthly are all the same price per box. Less often just means fewer boxes, never a worse deal on each one.
Delivery is free, with no minimum
We drive the boxes out ourselves across SS & CM postcodes, so there is nothing to add at checkout, whatever size you order.
No joining fee, no tie-in
Nothing to pay up front and no minimum number of boxes. Skip, pause or cancel whenever you like.
Questions worth asking
What actually goes in the box?
Whatever came in that week. We fill boxes from the landings and the morning market run, so the exact fish changes with the weather and the tides. The box you pick sets the character of it: one boat’s catch, Essex shellfish, the smoked selection, or the flagship surprise.
What if it is a bad week for fishing?
Your box still turns up, on your day, at the same price. If the boats have had a lean week we top it up from the counter and our market stock rather than sending you a half-empty box or pushing your delivery back.
Is it cheaper than buying one-off?
No, and we would rather say so plainly: the fish costs the same as it does over the counter. What subscribing gets you is first claim on the catch before it goes on general sale, delivery included, and never having to remember to reorder.
Can I skip a week or pause it?
Yes, and you do it yourself in your account. Skip a single delivery, pause while you are away, change how often it comes, or cancel completely. No emails, no notice period, no talking anyone out of it.
What if there is a fish I cannot eat?
Tell us at signup and we will work around it. Whole categories like shellfish or oily fish get left out of your box entirely, and you can also just name fish you do not fancy and we will swap those for something else that week.
Can you guarantee a box is free from an allergen?
Honestly, no. We can keep something out of your box completely, and we will. But we are a fishmonger: fish and shellfish are handled side by side, on the same benches, with the same hands and knives, so we cannot tell you a box has never been near them. If the allergy is a serious one, talk to us before you order rather than after, and we will tell you straight whether we are right for you.
Can I change my box or my day later?
Yes to both. The box is a per-delivery choice, so you can have something different next time at no extra cost, and your Tuesday or Friday slot can be moved whenever it suits you.
Where do you deliver?
SS & CM postcodes, for now. We drive the boxes out ourselves rather than handing them to a courier, which is why the area is tight and why it arrives in the state it left in. Click and collect follows once our new premises are open.
How fresh is it when it lands?
It is wrapped, boxed on ice and sealed the same morning it is filleted, then driven straight to you on your delivery day. Nothing sits in a depot overnight.
